Pellets: the importance of ENplus certification

In search of more sustainable alternatives for energy generation, biomass is gaining more and more followers, not only in industry, but also in homes. The growing adherence to pellets to feed salamanders is proof of this. But for excellent thermal performance, whether in industry or in the home environment, it is necessary to ensure that pellets meet a series of established requirements.

With an increasingly heated market, there was a need to create quality seals to certify the origin of the pellets. However, the diversity of certifications ended up hampering homogeneity in the criteria and directly impacted the negotiations. In order to level these parameters, the certification that became a benchmark in the market: ENplus.

In Portugal, the organization that represents this recognition is ANPEB – National Association of Biomass Energy Pellets. According to João Ferreira, a member of the Association, “the ENplus certification aims not only at product quality, but also at establishing requirements for the procedures applied to wood pellets throughout its value chain. Thus, companies that produce wood pellets for heat production and companies that distribute this product to the end customer are covered by the ENplus certification. ” In other words, this guarantee seal is also reflected in consumers who, like companies that seek quality inputs, have already identified that pellets without certifications cause damage to heating equipment. Therefore, they are even more looking for certified products, especially with ENplus proof.

With this, the pellets recognized with the ENplus guarantee offer full security and sustainability for companies that implement sustainable development, and for final consumers, also expanding business opportunities for export with the objective of promoting bioenergy in the world.
